I thought that October’s session was great!  I was concerned with the fact that we’d be doing a lot of listening and not much moving - but the day went by so quickly!  The speakers were informative and  interesting.  Each presenter brought something different to the “table”.  And our afternoon session with Marty was great too; our group had interesting topics with much discussion.

I’m looking forward to November’s session.

Regards,

Pam Korth

Hello All - today I attended a Conference that Second Harvest of Southeastern Wisconsin sponsored and found out this interesting fact about Beaver Dam History.  John Van Hengel was the founder of Second Harvest in the early 70’s and he was from Beaver Dam.

Since our last session and the challenge to select only one situation in which I can impact, I have focused on the media - mostly the newspaper - to guage how our current community leaders(and the general population) are responding to the list of “issues” we developed together in class. My area of interest is Education.  Realizing that the media is only one avenue of research, I am looking for statistics on class size, teacher salaries, and recent ranking of our schools in comparison to others in the state.  Can anyone suggest a starting point for gathering these statistics - other than the internet?  Or are you the network contact that has the information?  Your comments - suggestions are much appreciated.

Hello all,  I thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson in the morning on Tuesday - its been some time since I’ve gone through the museum!  It sounds like the afternoon was good to and I’m looking forward to having one or a couple of you share information on the afternoon session with those of us who couldn’t attend.  Anyone interested in helping me get on the same page as you?  I don’t feel I can do our homework without some coaching/sharing.  Contact me at LSkjerly@bdch.org.  Thanks!

Hello All - I have been telling everyone I know everything about what I learned on Tuesday.  I dido everyone’s responses.  I do feel we where all a little “slap happy” in the afternoon - did anyone ask Rob what he added to our soda’s-hehe.  Kay, you handled us enjoying ourselves very well, I applaud you.  On the homework issue - I must say, my comment to Marty was only in humor about working on this at work and No, I will not be working on it at work.  However, I do want to say - We all have busy lives mine is no different and may even be a little bit more hectic with working full-time, being a single mom and going to school full-time and I feel that having 3 weeks to complete our homework assignment’s is nothing to send everyone up in a panic about.  Is there the option to have working lunches as we move forward?  Just a thought.  I really don’t see the homework issue as much of a problem.

Hello…  Knowing and understanding a little more about the history of BD, certainly makes me proud to be a part of this wonderful city.  On the subject of homework - I also feel that we should be given time to complete homework during our regular sessions.  Have a great day and enjoy the beautiful weather we are having.

Hello fellow LBDers,

I thought the day flew by on Tuesday.  It really helps to be able to move around.  The history portion was fantastic.  I hadn’t been to the museum in years and was floored by its growth.  I thought the afternoon was also very beneficial.  Our diverse group was able to quickly, and painlessly, identify the top five challenges we feel BD needs to address as soon as possible.  Impressive.  As for Phil’s comment regarding homework:  I assumed we would need to spend time outside of class to work on projects, so I thought nothing of receiving a bit of outside work.  Have an awesome weekend!—Kristin

That session was pretty amazing by learning about the history of Beaver Dam and knowing the problems that we face in our community so that we can solve those problems by working together as a team! The afternoon session I thought was very adventurous and motivating that our communication can affect the people around us!

The September Session of LBD was terrific!  No matter how much a person thinks they know about their community, there is always more to learn.  As a person who really enjoys history, I was glad to add to what I already know about the history of Beaver Dam.

The afternoon session with Kay and Marty were constructive and fun.  This blog is meant to be an interactive sharing of views and an expose on the program for all to see, so I do, however, want to bring the issue of homework up.   The participants of LBD have all made a tremendous time commitment to the program, including having to “make up” our missed work days when we have our session.  Activities such as those we were sent home with should be done in our LBD sessions by alloting some of the afternoon session time to doing them.  What do my fellow classmates think?
